I am very pleased to announce that the NCA has been (somewhat unofficially) been granted tax exemption status by the IRS!
This is a huge step forward for our organization. This critical step was needed for us to begin implementation of our business plan which includes creating great opportunities for composers in performance of their works and scholarship/awards.
One of the more exciting elements of the plan is to establish a scholarship in the name of Kenneth Schermerhorn, a charter member of the NCA board, long time conductor of the NSO, and a composer in his own right. We can't think of a better way to continue his legacy than to offer a student a helping hand in his career or to reward an older composer a reward for his efforts. There will be details forthcoming very soon.
This step also represents a means for us to solicit money from grant organizations and private donors. More money means more opportunities...and there will be opportunities.
This is an exciting time for us at the NCA and we look forward to implementing our plan full force as we head into 2006...the year the Schermerhorn Center opens its inaugural season.
